In some of the stops such as 506 stop towards Ferry Pier Direction at Tuen Mun Station, the buses are required to stop for a long time to let all passengers who are waiting to get on the bus. Only one passenger can on board the bus at the same time. The queue will stop to move when the passenger in the front is paying. Under this system, the passengers flow is too slow. It could make the bus delay. Therefore, a high efficiency of bus stop system should be introduced.
New System introduction:
Passengers are required to pay when they are waiting for the bus. There are four queues after they enter the gates. The bus will clear the passengers who will be got off from the bus first and move forward to let passenger enter. 4 passenger can enter the super low floor bus at the same time ( 2 at the front door, 2 at the back door).
Pro(s):
Increase the efficiency on handling the passenger flow.
i.e Increase the frequency of the routes/ resting time of the driver
Con(s):
Wheel Chair passenger will not be able to get on the bus under this system. He should wait in a special site (may be the front of the stop) and get on the bus first. He need to pay inside the bus( i.e. using old system for wheel chair passenger)
Gate price and maintenance can be costly
Passengers has no freedom to withdrew the queue after entering the gate
Non paid passengers may be found if they climb over the fence/gate of the stop.
Area of Application:
High passenger flow of onboard
Sufficient in space
Passengers getting off in this stop are little in amount
e.g MTR 506( Tuen Mun MTR-> Ferry Pier direction)/ MTR K51( Siu Hong Station-> Fu Tai direction)/ MTR K76( Tin Shui Wai Station)
