Chinese long-range electric bus ‘coming to London’
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD — the letters stand for Build Your Dreams — says one of its 12m solar/ battery-powered city buses will go into trial service in London in the coming months.
BYD is launching its eBUS- 12 at Busworld in Kortrijk and says an electric double-decker and a 7m midibus are being developed. It is supplying three buses and two charging stations next year for a shuttle service at Frankfurt Airport (Global News last month) and trials are also to be undertaken in Copenhagen and Amsterdam.
The company, in which American investor Warren Buffett has a 10% stake, claims a 250km (155mile) range on a single charge in urban conditions.
Roof-mounted solar panels increase the range and the BYD lithium Fe battery (recyclable with no toxic electrolytes or heavy metals) can be fully charged in 3 to 6hr.
