I will be spending some time in Hong Kong the next month and I wanted some advices and information in order to record sound and make videos.

First of all, I would like to record some of the older buses still in service such as the KMB's Dennis Dragon (9.9m/11m and 12m variants) and would like to know on which lines I could find these buses running, and above all which lines are less crowded.

I would the same information if possible, for citybus and nwfb dennis dragons and volvo olympians.

Also, which line would be the best to record the all new Enviro 500 E50D, on kmb citybus routes?

lastly, I know that some of the earlier generations Enviro 500 of KMB have switched lines, so are there some still running on long highway lines? if yes could someone tell me where I can find them.


Another type of information I would like to know, is about the octopus card. For instance, if I enter the MTR network to record train sounds, how long can I stay inside the network before exiting? Last time I went to HK, I remember that my octopus card wouldn't let me out, after I stayed too long on the trains..... So please could you clarify this issue for me?

Firstly, you should put this post in board #24, which I believe the moving will be done by a boardmaster soon.

For KMB/NWFB Dennis Dragon/Condor(ADS/AD/3AD/DA), there are currently two types of engine combinations - the M11 engine (Euro 2) and the LTA10 engine (Euro 1).
For the M11 ADS, a good choice for sound recording would be routes 8, 34, 80M, 289K, as this batch is always seen at these routes. 80M and 289K are the least crowded.

LTA10 ADS: 73, 82K and 86A

AD (all are LTA10): 2E, 31, 41M, 70K, 273B

3AD: 277X, 278X (in non-rush hours), 83X

DA (NWFB Dennis Condor, both M11 and LTA10): 4, 4X, 91, 94A, 595

VA (NWFB Volvo Olympian, D10A engine): there are no routes which frequently use these buses, the safest you can go for the D10A VAs are 94A and 595 and maybe 42. The VAs using Cummins engine will retire before 21st July.

Citybus Dennis Dragons (fleet nr. 861-880): 8X, 118, 788, 789 (unfortunately all four of these routes can be quite crowded in the daytime)

Citybus Volvo Olympians (fleet nr. 487-504 are TD102KF): 77, 99

Citybus Volvo Olympians (Fleet nr. 324-329, 511-699, 951-999, 9000-9042 are all D10A): 90B, 99, 85, 103

The maximum time of staying in the paid area is 150 minutes. You may refer to this document ( 1.8 )

Most of the Enviro500 MMC of KMB are serving those routes with high demand, so it's quite difficult to find a quiet place for recording.
But KMB has a huge number Enviro500 MMC, so no need to worry about that.
My recommendation is rt.961, it has a low demand in non-rush hour

For the KMB's first generation of Enviro500, rt.68A is a good choice.

CTB's Enviro500 MMC: rt.788 rt.789 rt.969 rt.40/40M(11.3m version)
You may also take a ride on the Cityflyer routes: rt.A11 rt.A12 rt.A22 etc.

NWFB's Enviro500 MMC(11.3m version): rt.2 rt.38 rt.722

Don't forget there are Enviro500 MMCs of the MTR Bus.
